The
History of Enigma Entertainment
Enigma
Entertainment came into existence in 1997 with only
$20 and a dream. That year Damond L. Nollan, the founder
and CEO of Enigma Entertainment, Inc., was attending
Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. His
major was Music with a concentration in Studio Engineering.
Through that exceptional program, Nollan was able to
sculpt his childhood dreams of becoming involved in
the entertainment business.
In
the fall of 1997, Nollan started a campus-based candy
business. One could see him carrying a large red basket
filled with candy in between classes, social events,
and even during the University's sporting games. Nollan
became the "Candyman" to his fellow students,
and after a few months, he opened a shop in his dorm
room during the night. CD's, hotdogs, t-shirts, calendars,
and of course, candy were just a few of the items found
in the "Candy Shop." Enigma Records was the
goal of this very determined individual; however, after
careful planning and intense research, Nollan decided
that he wouldn't limit his business to just music. He
then expanded his business goals to include ALL forms
of entertainment. This lead to the renaming of Enigma
Music to it's current name, Enigma Entertainment, Inc.
Upon
Nollan's graduation in 1999, he opened his first venture,
Millennium Music. This record store was located across
the street from Elizabeth City State University and
within a few months, it became a success. But on a chilly
October evening, only hours before Millennium Music's
first record signing (which would have included 112
& Ja Rule), the store was burglarized. With all
his investment monies now gone and no insurance to support
him and his business partner, Millennium Music was closed.
The
failure of his first business only lit a fire larger
than the first, and in a few short months, he had plans
to jump back on the horse. During the down time, Nollan
realized that a successful business takes the efforts
of many people, and in March of 2000 he organized a
meeting in his apartment to discuss a business venture
that would include other young entrepreneurs. There
were more than a dozen participants at that first meeting.
The topic of discussion that night was to investigate
the possiblity of working together versus individually.
The idea was that working together as one entity could
produce greater effects than anyone could do alone.
Plans
were set to take Enigma Entertainment to a new level--one
that would produce quality entertainment at a reasonable
price. This venture included many of the original participants
who attended that first meeting. Through the next 5
months, plans were being executed and on September 15,
2000, Enigma Entertainment, Inc. was officially born.
